FAQ
Q: What is the total cost I pay for my au pair?
A:
The monthly cost is approximately €385, which includes:
- Pocket Money: €340 (regulated by Dutch law).
- Public Transport Contribution: €34.95 (monthly pass).
- Mobile Subscription Contribution: €10.
Q: Are there any additional costs I should consider?
A:
Yes, additional costs may include:
- Au Pair Agency Fee: A one-time placement fee (Here is our fee).
- Flight Ticket: €450–€600 (shared cost: the host family pays half).
- Mandatory TB Test: €50 (required by GGD).
- Au Pair Insurance: €550–€600. This compulsory insurance covers travel sickness, liability, accidents, luggage, and emergency assistance, including repatriation. Recommended providers include Tasman, ISIS, and Johoo.
- Visa Application Fees: Required for the au pair’s legal stay in the Netherlands.
- Food and Accommodation: Since the au pair lives with your family, they share meals and household facilities.
Q: Is hosting an au pair more affordable than hiring a babysitter?
A:
Yes! Hosting an au pair is significantly more cost-effective. A babysitter typically costs €10–15/hour, amounting to €1,200–1,500/month for 30 hours/week. In comparison, an au pair provides 30 hours/week of childcare and cultural enrichment for just €385/month.
Q: What does the pocket money cover?
A:
Pocket money is for the au pair’s personal expenses, such as: shopping, social activities, personal hobbies.
Q: What happens if we need extra hours beyond 30 per week?
A:
Dutch regulations limit au pairs to 30 hours per week and 8 hours per day. If additional help is required, you’ll need to hire extra childcare or a part-time babysitter to stay compliant with the law.
Q: Are there hidden costs we should know about?
A:
No hidden costs! We provide a transparent breakdown during the consultation process, so you know exactly what to expect.
Q: Do we need to pay taxes on the au pair’s pocket money?
A:
No. Pocket money is not considered a salary and is exempt from taxes under Dutch regulations.
Q: What support is included in the agency fee?
A:
Our agency fee includes:
- Matching and screening services.
- Visa and legal documentation support.
- Cultural training for both families and au pairs.
- Ongoing guidance and conflict resolution during the au pair’s stay.
