What We Do
We provide end-to-end services for both au pairs and host families, including:
1. Au Pair Recruitment
We recruit au pairs from Japan who are passionate about cultural exchange and dedicated to providing quality childcare tailored to your family’s unique needs.
2. Host Family Matching
We carefully match au pairs with host families, focusing on shared values, childcare requirements, and compatibility to create harmonious relationships.
3. 12 Months of Ongoing Support
From the moment your au pair arrives, we provide ongoing guidance and support throughout their 12-month stay. Our services include:
- Assistance with cultural adjustment for both families and au pairs.
- Regular check-ins to address any concerns or needs.
- Continued support for legal or administrative requirements.
4. Cultural Exchange Opportunities
We facilitate events and opportunities to strengthen connections between au pairs and families, fostering meaningful cultural exchange and understanding.

5. Careful Au Pair Selection
Candidate au-pairs are carefully screened and selected beforehand by us.
Here’s how we do it:
- Verification of Qualifications
- At least 200 hours of childcare experience with training or 400+ hours of practical experience.
- Review of diplomas, certificates, and academic records.
- Background Checks
- Certificate of good conduct for reliability and integrity.
- Police check and birth certificate verification for safety assurance.
- References and Interviews
- Contacting previous employers or families to validate childcare experience.
- In-depth interviews to assess personality, communication, and motivation.
- Cultural Readiness
- Ensuring candidates are ready to embrace Dutch culture and family life.
- Evaluating their ability to foster meaningful cultural exchange.
- Preparation and Support
- Providing cultural training for a smooth transition.
- Ongoing support to ensure a successful au pair experience.
Our Story !
Risa Tanikawa
The concept of Sakura AuPair Japan originated from Risa’s personal experiences as an au pair in Australia and the UK. After successfully assisting a former host family in finding another Japanese au pair, Risa recognised the potential to connect au pairs from Japan with families abroad. Witnessing the positive impact on both the au pair and the host family motivated her to establish an agency dedicated to providing others with similarly enriching experiences.
Our vision is to expand beyond the Netherlands, eventually connecting Japanese au pairs with host families across Europe. We aim to become a trusted and valued partner for both au pairs and families, creating unforgettable experiences and long-lasting connections through cultural exchange.
